In the end I couldn't make it in to the Princes Park Vigil in time but I was walking home and it seemed appropriate to stop and walk through my local park. The park that anytime I'm walking home in the dark always makes me have to stop and make a decision. Do I walk through? (a park that's actually quite well lit and probably totally safe) or should I walk that little bit further around cos...well you know. It usually depends on what time it is and how many people are around. Also how I feel. Brave and a little defiant? I should feel safe to walk through this space so fuck it I will. A little more anxious or wary today? Maybe I go round, just in case. But it shouldn't matter how I feel. Bravery shouldn't be required to safely get home, whichever way I go. It's not even about whether or not I would be safe but why should it even have to be a thought?
